Transcription: Portland Feels Shock Trembler is Noticeable in Tall Office Buildings of City A slight earthquake shock was felt in Portland about 4:45 PM yesterday. It was of brief duration and was noticed chiefly in tall office buildings. "The quake seemed to consist of a sharp almost vertical jolt, followed by two milder waves," said John McNulty, nautical expert in charge of the local branch of the U.S. Hydrographic Office, in discussing the trembler. "Its trend was north and south, magnetic, according to the compass in my office. Apparently, from the nature of the shocks, Portland is very close to the epi-central, as the spot directly over the disturbance was located, or to compute the force of the shock." Other reports received by The Oregonian agreed with Mr. McNulty's regarding the time and duration of the shock. |
