Felt in Portland. From the Oregonian "There was a very perceptible earthquake shock at a few minutes before 12 o'clock on Friday night and another slighter one a few minutes after. They were not violent enough to awaken persons who were asleep and were not noticed in the Oregonian office, on account of the jarring of the machinery in the press room, but persons who awoke in quiet places noticed the movement of lamps, furniture, etc. Some persons supposed that the disturbance was caused by a violent wind, others imagined that some one was trying to break into the house."

Earthquake Shocks

There was a very perceptible earthquake shock at a few minutes before 12 o'clock on Friday night and another slighter one a few minutes after. They were not violent enough to awaken persons who were asleep and were not noticed in the Oregonian office, on account of the jarring of the machinery in the press room, but persons who awoke in quiet places noticed the movement of lamps, furniture, etc. Some persons supposed that the disturbance was caused by a violent wind, others imagined that some one was trying to break into the house.
