Transcription: Earthquake. - The prognosticators of evil at the winter Solstice, appear to have been correct in their calculations. Yesterday morning, shortly after 4 o'clock, there were three sensible shakes, or more properly upward bumps, of Mother Earth; for the movement was precisely as if a person standing upon the lower floor of a building had struck the upper floor with a heavy joist three times in quick succession. Many persons slept through the shock: others, again were widely awakened and, of course, somewhat frightened. Crockery rattled in some houses for, perhaps, six seconds and then, the throes being over, settled down quietly upon the shelves again.
