REPORT GROUND FAILURES

Have you seen ground failures? Tell us!

Geologists need to know if you have witnessed any ground failures. Please send us:

Cracks: Length, width, number, orientation, surface type (soil, pavement, etc.) and whether sand or water is issuing from them.

Settling: Area and depth.

Sinkholes: Size and depth.

Landslides and Rockfalls: Amount of material, distance it has flowed, relative steepness of slope.

Sand Boils, Sand Volcanoes and Liquefaction: Width and height of sand cones, and type of material (fine sand, black sand, mud, coal chips, etc.)

Water Seeping to Surface: Amount of seepage, and whether seeping continues or has stopped.
